Blower Door Testing

Building a new building?  NYS requires all new buildings to have a blower door test that meets NYS 2020 Energy Code.


Existing buildings need a blower door test to find out at what level their building is inefficient, and where it is coming from. Using what is called a blower door, BSG will either pressurize or depressurize your building to 50 pascals of pressure to find several measurements: 


HOW MANY CUBIC FEET PER MINUTE (cfm) OF AIR YOUR BUILDING IS LOSING TO THE OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENT.


HOW MANY AIR EXCHANGES PER HOUR (ach/hr).

(The total volume of building being lost to the outside that must be heated or cooled per hour.  Less air exchanges per hour means less money spent.  More air exchanges per hour means more money wasted heating or cooling the outside environment).


EXACTLY WHERE BOTH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY LOCATIONS OF AIR INFILTRATION ARE FOUND

The blower door in conjunction with smoke pens, and/or thermal imaging cameras can help find the main areas of air infiltration and help develop an action plan or priority.


Our findings report highlights how your building measures up to the current 2020 NYS Energy Code for existing structures.  Our report offers specific / prioritized solutions for remedies to start saving.

We use top of the line thermal imaging to make visible the hidden temperature inefficiencies of your building. 


GOOD AT FINDING SURFACE TEMPERATURE INEFFICIENCIES

(The camera can pick up areas of inefficiency that we would not otherwise be able to feel or sense.  This is best used in conjunction with the blower door test)


LEVEL OF TEMPERATURE DIFFERENTIAL

Temperature differentials are normal in a homes different door, windows, walls, floors, and ceilings.  Knowing how much differential is vital to finding out how much energy is being lost through the thermodynamic of conduction.
